CURRENT DISCUSSION: Angling Management Plan Skeena Quality Waters Strategy Most recently a leaked draft of recommendations to be put forth for the upcoming 2010-11 fishing regulations has been a concern for many stakeholders. I have read this draft, and certenlycertainly do ( not ) agree with most of these recommendations.Based the the voices of resident anglers, guides and local bussinessbusiness owners at meetingmeetings held, they also do not agree.I do agree that based on the stats at certain times of the peak Steelhead season at certain places on certain rivers there is a high consentrationconcentration of anglers, and there could be in the future the need to restrict these activities to avoid over crowding.I do not believe we are there yet.The overall affects of any proposed lottery system on local bussnessesbusinesses has not really been addressed, and this is an issue that must be addressed. We have always promontedpromotedtourisim, tourism, and our rivers are world renoundrenowned for the sports fishingfishing. For those of you who are non-resident and alien anglers, remember Alan Dolan & Associates are not speaking the truth when they site stats saying that we, local residents, anglers, guides and business people are for the recommendations being released, because clearly we are not and are continuing with every effort to be heard, that we are against them. " Have people gone mad"! Its about fuels to fly my Jumbo Jet, or my Hummer! ( Big Red )
Qualified Waters groups ponder and argue about restricting aliens from our rivers, or at least give them draws, or as suggested, just allow the licenced fishing guides to fish. Some of these group recommendations will be posted in the fishing regulations down the road.
( Big Red ) " Yes I do think that some limits may be required to protect the Salmon and Steelhead stocks, so that every one gets to enjoy fly fishing at its best. We of course we do not want to see or waters overcrowded like places on South Coast. Better policing to combat illegal guiding, mistreatment of Steelhead, litering and any other violations of regulations under the Fisheries act. Build a fish hatchery on the Bulkley above Telkwa.
( Big Red ) "Maybe with hatcheries, and fly-fishing only designation, and motor boat restrictions, may be enough to make vacationing in our great place, a life time experience or dream. Everyone should have the right to fish as much as they want. Book your stays in Telkwa, we want you to enjoy our rivers. "
