The Kallum River blesses us fly fishers with some great fishing in the Spring, for both Steelhead and Chinook Salmon. There are also lots of Bull Trout to keep your blood flowing. ( Big Red ) These pictures were provided by Sandy ( spey guy ) nice fish Sandy.
The Kallum River is a busy place in the Spring. Not only are the Steelhead moving down into the river to spawn, but an early run of Chinook Salmon arrive, and both can be taken on a fly rod.
The Chinook average between 10 and 30 lbs, and there are Steelhead in the 40" range to encounter. A later Summer run of Chinook have fish ranging from 10 to 100 lbs+.
In early Spring Steelhead are aggressive and their numbers dominate the number of Chinook in the river. Bull trout are also abundant in the river, as they target the eggs of spawning Steelhead.
A nice little buck, that posed for a pictur.e. It was getting a little late in the season here, as the Chinooks had already moved into the river, but a little of both makes it more exciting.
Here a Chinook is in a hurry to get back to where it had been enjoying the morning.
Chinooks at this time of the year can reach around 40lbs, Later in the Summer can reach 50 to 100 lbs.
Chinooks will get your blood pumping for sure.

A friend hooks into a little Bull Trout, the Kallum has a strong Bull Trout population.
