Hi my name is Don Lambie ( Big Red ) and I have been fishing since I was 9. Now 62, my passion is fly fishing with a single hand rod for Salmon and Steelhead. I presently live in Telkwa B.C., not to far from the world class Steelhead River the Bulkley, and others like the Skeena, Kispiox, Sustat, Kitimat, Copper to name a few.

My favorite River for Steelhead is the Skeena River, followed by the Bulkley River.
My favorite Salmon River is the Skeena hands down.

I tie and sell Salmon and Steelhead flies, of which will be available from this site by contacting me directly by e-mail. If you are in our area, my flies are available at McBike Fly Shop in Smithers, info@McBike.bc.ca and in Telkwa at the Two Rivers Lodge info@TwoRiversLodge.ca or visit the their site at www.TwoRiverslodge.ca The Lodge is under new management, and Jane and Lawrence are great people and its a great place to stay when in Telkwa, so check it out, and besides that you can catch Steelhead right in their back yard, I and others have done it many times, and Jane and Lawrence have BQS where you get to meet other fly fishers and swap stories.

If you are interested in camping out by the river, or looking for an RV hook up then the Field and Stream RV Park is the ideal place for you. It can be found 5 km West of Telkwa on highway 16.

On this site you can view these flies, and other pictures of fish caught in our world famous rivers. The Big Red Fly Box offers much, much, more, so join in and be a part of making this a great site.

As a retired wilderness fishing guide, I now have more time to pursue my true passion, fly fishing. Although I am not a world traveler, I enjoy hearing from friends that are. There are so many spectacular fly fishing locations, and I envy those who get to enjoy them. I find that my local rivers take up all my time, and I am truly blessed to have them.

I am still in pursuit of the biggest Steelhead on a fly rod in the world, and I have hooked them, but they were no match for a 7/8 weight single hand rod. My biggest Steelhead was 45inches, but that was long before I had a pc or a digital camera. My biggest Salmon on a fly was a 42lb Chinook which was taken on the Scarlet Dancer tied on a # 1 Eagle Claw Nickle. This year 2007, a Chinook in the Kitimat river left me holding a fly rod and reel with absolutely no fly line or backing.

These monsters have made the world a great place to fly fish and record for everyone to see. Hooking these big fish on gear is challenge enough but try them on a fly rod. How about this great fish taken in Alaska in June on a Spey Rod by Gord.

A great looking Chinook Gord.

Alaskan rivers are usually clear in June when these big guys are running, and fishing close to salt water makes them even more of a challenge.

It is possible to hook these bright fish in the northern rivers of B.C. provided the conditions are right for fly fishing.

My fly rod of choice for these monsters is a 10 foot 10 weight loomis blank.

I teach the basic fly fishing skills to anyone who is interested in starting, and I also teach others the proper presentation of my style of flies, so that they may increase their skills and enjoy hooking more Steelhead and Salmon.

I started this site so that others may enjoy my adventures, and us theirs. With the help of this site and dedicated members like you, we can share our stories, adventures, and our fly fishing passion. I can be contacted @ bigredfly@gmail.com Till Later, take care, tight lines, and great adventures. ( Big Red )

Hello Don,
I'm in the process of looking for some informational wiki sites. I took a look around your wiki site today and I'm impressed with the great level of information you have about your fly fishing hobby!... or would it be more appropriate to call it an addiction? :-) Just teasing with you!

Here's why I'm on the hunt for helpful wikis: We've recently started a new wiki to help advertise wetpaint wikis across the board. It's going to be in a "classified ads" format.
The good folks at the WetpaintCentral site will be helping us market the site very soon. But at this time we are still tweaking out the submission process. We are inviting a few ~active~ wiki sites to jump on board now to help us work out those issues.

Would welcome your input if you are interested. The site addy is: http://drypaintads.wetpaint.com
Thanks in advance for your consideration.
